Summer Streets back for 2010
Last year, Vanderbilt was blocked off from car traffic for four Sundays and filled with music, food, and activities for all ages. It was so successful that they’re bringing it back this summer, with slightly different scheduling. Vanderbilt will be closed from Dean to Park from 12:00pm to 5:00pm on:
Saturday, June 12th
Sundays June 20th and [...]

Neighborhood Joints: Buttermilk Channel
Buttermilk Channel in Carroll Gardens is one of the restaurants I’ve been meaning to try for the past year. We went on Saturday, and the first thing you should know is that this joint is jumpin’! We arrived at 7:00pm and were quoted an hour and 15 minute wait (they only take reservations for large [...]

Brooklyn Flea’s Winter Digs
Last weekend was the grand opening of the Brooklyn Flea’s winter home at One Hanson, aka the Williamsburg Savings Bank. The building has just been restored, and it looks amazing! The main floor has most of the non-food vendors, but there are more on an upper mezzanine and a few downstairs by the super cool [...]

New Years Resolution Solution
Last fall, I had the opportunity to do some personal training with my friend Haley Treco. Haley is a friend of mine from college, and she’s also a certified personal trainer and nutrition and wellness consultant. Had she not been someone I knew already, I don’t think I ever would have tried personal training. I [...]

Problems at Way Station: No Liquor License
Our friends at Gothamist shed a little light on what the hold up is at Way Station on Washington: no liquor license. I guess they’ve been holding one-off events with one night only licenses, but haven’t been able to get a real one. If you want to show ‘em a little support, stop by on [...]

Update on Way Station
Just read this post on Brownstoner that describes Steampunk bar Way Station as a “music venue” set to open after the first of the year. Interesting! Apparently they’re also having a Christmas/Hanukkah party on the 20th and a New Years Eve party, if you’re interested.

Welcome to the Neighborhood: Minor Arcana
Minor Arcana was supposed to be called Flying Monkeys. That was before a tarot card reader in Brighton Beach told the owner that he was destined for failure in his new venture. Instead of throwing in the towel, he changed the name: “Minor Arcana” apparently refers to a destiny that you can change. Thanks to [...]

End of the CSA Season: Weeks #21 and #22
This is it, folks: the last two shares of the 2009 Prospect Heights CSA season. Didn’t that go fast?!
We got some adorable cauliflower, which led me to learn that cauliflower used to always be this size, but they were bred to be bigger to fit American tastes. Now, with petite vegetables becoming more and more [...]
