Summer Streets back for 2010

Last year, Vanderbilt was blocked off from car traffic for four Sundays and filled with music, food, and activities for all ages.  It was so successful that they’re bringing it back this summer, with slightly different scheduling.  Vanderbilt will be closed from Dean to Park from 12:00pm to 5:00pm on:
Saturday, June 12th
Sundays June 20th and [...]

Welcome to the Neighborhood: The Vanderbilt

Friday night was the grand opening of The Vanderbilt, the new restaurant on the northwest corner of Bergen and Vanderbilt.  I have to say, in my time in the neighborhood I have NEVER seen such a hyped opening!  We arrived at 7:30 and were told the wait for two was an hour and fifteen minutes; [...]

Welcome to the Neighborhood: 1 of a Find Vintage

I posted a couple weeks ago about the new vintage store on Vanderbilt.  1 of a Find is now officially open, so I went to check it out.  Now, I must admit: I am a terrible vintage shopper.  My fashion sense is underdeveloped already, and vintage seems to require imagination that I just don’t have.  [...]

New Vintage Store on Vanderbilt

Just saw this: One of a Find, a vintage clothing store, will open on Vanderbilt on September 5th.  It’s in the old Memories Out of the Box space between Prospect and St. Marks.  Get excited!

Welcome to the Neighborhood: Unnameable Books

Many of you may recognize Unnameable Books from their former location on Bergen between Flatbush and Fifth Ave.  Thankfully for those of us a few blocks further east, they’ve recently moved to a new location at Vanderbilt and St. Marks.  This independent bookstore is split pretty evenly between new and used books, and they aleady [...]

Vanderbilt Flea @ 633

Another of my Summer Streets discoveries is what’s going on at the store formerly known as Memories Out of the Box at 633 Vanderbilt.  Martie, the owner of Memories Out of the Box, said that although her business is doing well (she helps people organize and display photos and memorabilia that would otherwise just collect [...]

Summer Streets on Vanderbilt Ave.

Hello, faithful readers!  Just got back from the first of four Summer Streets on Vanderbilt.  Basically, they’re turning Vanderbilt into a pedestrian plaza from Dean to Park Place all four Sundays in June from 12 to 5pm.  It was pretty neat!  It wasn’t at all like a street fair, more like a block party for [...]

Vanderbilt Ave. to participate in Summer Streets

According to Danae Oratowski of the Prospect Heights Neighborhood Development Council (we have one of those?!) and the Brooklynian, Vanderbilt Ave. will be having its own Summer Streets program.  Every Sunday in June Vanderbilt will be closed to cars from Dean St. to Park Place between noon and 5pm.  Local businesses will have stands and [...]
